When the moon rises over Fripp Island, King Arthur and his mischievous band of nighttime friends come out to play.

In King Arthur and the Night Brigade, Fripp’s legendary alligator glides through the dark blue water beneath a glowing full moon, carrying an unlikely crew of island characters. A curious raccoon leads the expedition while a tiny frog stands at attention with feather in hand. Overhead, playful opossums dangle from King Arthur’s sweeping tail as busy bees buzz alongside the adventure.

Rich blues and soft greens are punctuated with black, white, gold, and whimsical touches of color, giving this painting a wonderfully playful folk-art quality. Each character seems to have a personality—and perhaps a little story of its own.

Inspired by the wildlife that comes alive after dark on Fripp Island, King Arthur and the Night Brigade is a lighthearted celebration of the Lowcountry’s wild side and the magic that just might happen when no one is watching.
